Test Engineer

The test engineer is responsible for new product introductions, process development, and process automation. This position requires the engineer to work independently, have a strong troubleshooting background, and to be detail-oriented.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Procedure development and training of new products
  • New code evaluation/troubleshooting
  • New hardware evaluations/troubleshooting
  • Organization of archived images, software revisions, data logging software, etc.
  • Customer service support
  • Onsite installation and customer training
  • Development of customer Quick Start Guides
  • Igor Macro updates for new analyzers and new tests
  • Basic mechanical & software setup of all Near and Mid IR analyzers
  • Cleaning and installation of high finesse, dielectric coating mirrors
  • Vacuum leak testing/troubleshooting
  • Optical system laser alignment
  • QC laser collimation
  • Calibration/ compressed gas handling
  • Setup and analysis of temperature controlled tests
  • Data analysis using scientific graphing and data analysis software (ORIGIN, IGOR, Excel)

Skills & Experience:

  • Master's degree or Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Science related field with 4+ years work experience
  • Proficiency with data analysis software, such as ORIGIN, IGOR, or Excel
  • Ability to multitask with a focus on details in order to meet strict deadlines
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team dynamic

SENIOR TEST/CAL TECHNICIAN

The senior technician is responsible for final assembly, test and calibration of all commercial analyzers, including near IR and mid IR systems. This position requires the senior technician to work independently, have a strong troubleshooting background, and to be detail-oriented.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Basic mechanical & software setup of all Near and Mid IR analyzers
  • Cleaning and installation of high finesse, dielectric coating mirrors
  • Optical system laser alignment
  • QC laser collimation
  • Vacuum leak testing/troubleshooting
  • Calibration/ compressed gas handling
  • Setup and analysis of temperature controlled tests
  • Data analysis using scientific graphing and data analysis software (ORIGIN, IGOR, Excel)
  • Procedure development
  • Customer service support
  • Onsite installation and customer training
  • General troubleshooting
  • RMA repairs/upgrades of all commercial analyzers

Skills & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a science related field

TEST/CAL TECHNICIAN

Los Gatos Research, a leading manufacturer of trace gas analytical instrumentation in Mountain View, CA, is currently interviewing individuals for building and testing instrumentation. This position requires an equivalent of Engineering or Science degree with hands-on capabilities to do assembly, testing and calibration on a variety of leading edge laser-based analytical instruments. The ideal candidate will have previous experience as an engineer or technician, strong troubleshooting skills, in-depth data analysis ability and excellent communication skills. Proficiency in scientific data analysis software (IGOR Pro, Origin, Scilab, MATLAB, or equivalent) is a plus. Experience in using LabVIEW is required. The desired candidate is expected to work independently as well as within a team dynamic.

Essential Functions:

  • Basic mechanical & software setup of analytical instrumentation.
  • Cleaning and installation of sensitive optical components.
  • Vacuum leak testing / troubleshooting.
  • Optical system alignment.
  • Calibration / compressed gas handling.
  • Setup and analysis of QC test protocols.
  • Data analysis using scientific graphing and data analysis software.
  • Protocol / procedure development.
  • General troubleshooting skills.
  • General computer / network skills.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs desired, but not required.

INSTRUMENT ASSEMBLY TECHNICIAN

Essential Functions:

  • Mechanical and electrical assembly of instrumentation.
  • Perform initial component testing with technical checklists.
  • Assist with engineering prototype projects with assembly and documentation support.
  • Be involved with trouble shooting, working with other team members on design refinements and improvements.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Positions requires a minimum of a Technical AS Degree (Associates) or equivalent experience.
  • Strong mechanical ability, attention to detail, good troubleshooting skills, the ability to read schematics and technical diagrams.
  • Experience soldering, use of electronic multimeter and general hand tools preferred.
  • General computer skills, Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs desired, but not required.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a team dynamic.
